When It’s Necessary to Repaint Your Home’s Exterior

Knowing when to have your home exterior repainted is a difficult task. In this article, we’ll attempt to make it easier. A repaint can refresh your home. It will improve the appearance of your home’s exterior.  We, at 21st Century Painting & Roofing know how to repaint a home’s exterior. We’ll give you some tips to know when it’s needed here.

Usually, there are certain times of year that are better to paint a home than others. When it’s relatively dry and warm, not too hot, it’s a good time to paint your home. Spring, summer and fall can all be good times to repaint a home. You don’t want the temp below 35 degrees Fahrenheit. Preferably, you want it above 50 degrees Fahrenheit and less than 80 degrees Fahrenheit. That’s the ideal.

Unfortunately, sometimes it becomes necessary to repaint your home at a less than optimum time. A wooden house can be highly susceptible to dry rot. Dry rot is caused by a species of fungi. It attacks the things that make it such a good medium to use to make a house – its strength and stiffness. Serious dry rot can pose serious threats to your home and your health. Painting your home when you first discover dry rot can protect it from the spores that could settle and took root in your wood and destroy it.

A home made of concrete or stone and similar materials are not threatened by dry rot. Rather, mold is their biggest problem. Covering it with paint can keep the damp away, especially if it’s a water repellent paint.

If you don’t have dry rot or mold issues, you can still tell it’s time to repaint your home when the paint has begun to peel. The aesthetics of your home are not as beautiful as they once were. You want to hire a professional painter to do the job. We, at 21st Century Painting & Roofing can do the job. We know just how to repaint the home so that is shines and sparkles. My house has a wooden exterior over the doorway. We have had to repaint it once, but we never know when the right time is. I didn’t know that painting could prevent dry rot from ruining the wood. Thanks for the information.
